Introducing ... Kate Hudson [8/8]

Kate Garry Hudson (born April 19, 1979) is an American film actress. She came to prominence in 2001 after bringing in several awards and nominations for her role in Almost Famous, and has since established herself as a Hollywood lead actress, starring in several films, including How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Skeleton Key,You, Me and Dupree, Fool's Gold, Raising Helen, My Best Friend's Girl, and Bride Wars.

Almost everyone who has spent time with Kate Hudson -including directors, family members, co-stars and interviewers - is quick to comment on her ability to light up a room. Through some combination of a winning smile, solid work ethic, and good old-fashioned talent, the young actress has gone from indie beginner to Vanity Fair cover girl in just three years. What's more, she's done it all without capitalizing on the success of legendary mom,Goldie Hawn.

By all accounts, Hudson was a born performer - as a child she danced and sang at every opportunity. Her family hoped that she would attend New York University after graduating from high school, but she opted to get her feet wet in the professional acting world first. She made her big-screen debut as an ambitious young starlet stranded in a tiny California town inDesert Blue (1998). Her next two films, while critically panned, made it into wider release:200 Cigarettes (1999) (in which she played an earnest but accident-prone ditz) and Gossip(2000) (which cast her as a rich, virginal college student). Perhaps Hudson's biggest break was landing the role of rock groupie (or "Band Aide") Penny Lane in Almost Famous (2000). The part was originally intended for Sarah Polley; when Polley backed out to pursue another project, director Cameron Crowe considered scrapping the film altogether. Hudson, who had been cast in a smaller role (as William's stewardess sister), begged for a chance to read for Penny. Crowe was impressed, Hudson got the part, and the show went on.

As much as Tinseltown gossipmongers would like to put them at odds, mother and daughter agree that Hawn is one of Hudson's biggest supporters. Kate has never been particularly close to her birth father, musician Bill Hudson; she considers her true "Pa" to be Hawn's longtime partner, Kurt Russell, who has lived with the family since she was three. Her brother, Oliver Hudson, is an actor and aspiring writer-director.

She’s really a person committed to this relationship. She loves him. She lives for him. She stands by her man. What she gave up for him is not painful – what’s painful is how the relationship turned out to be, because she realises that the confidence they used to share is collapsing, and what she lives for is going away"

INTERVIEW - Penelope Cruz on the Press Junket

Penelope Cruz discovers musical muscles

Penelope Cruz had to use muscles she hadn't used since she was a teenager in new movie 'Nine'.
The Spanish actress put in weeks of training for one particular scene in the musical movie - about a film director struggling in his relationships with women, in which Penelope plays the central character's mistress - where she had to slide down a rope.

Describing the scene, Penelope said: "They mapped it out and showed me how it was done. I said I would never be able to do it but I worked and worked and regained the memory of muscles in my legs I hadn't used since I was a teenager studying ballet."
Penelope, 35, was rehearsing for the film's rope scenes for three months before they were eventually completed, and was left with calluses on her hands and bleeding digits from sliding down the ropes so often.

She added to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "I was stretching, running and going to the gym to get my arms strong to support me on the ropes. But with my hands, after a while you don't feel the pain. I had the wounds dressed and carried on."

Fergie Receives Love Letter From Co-Star Daniel Day Lewis

Stacy Ferguson aka Fergie has got a love letter from her "Nine" co-star, Daniel Day Lewis. During a press conference on November 15 at The Waldorf Astoria in New York, she revealed that she received the letter from Lewis in the guise of his "Nine" character Guido Contini who has a romance with her.

"Daniel is very charming. I'd go into my dressing room, and I'd find this little note," the only female member of Black Eyed Peas recalled. "I'd open it, and it would be Guido's stationary. He would write me little notes as Guido." She continued on describing, " They were very cute and very charming."

On the occasion, she also revealed that playing opposite A-list actresses like Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Judi Dench and Marion Cotillard, makes her nervous. She confessed, "Going into this musical, I'm definitely the singer coming into this A-list acting world."
"It was intimidating for me flying over and knowing that I was going to be amongst these people who were at the top of their game in their field," she elaborated more. "I thought maybe I'll just sit in the corner and kind of be a sponge and not speak and watch how they hone their craft."

But, she wasn't intimidated for long. "The first person I met was Daniel. It was 15 minutes later where I had to belt out the song right in front of him," she shared. "I've admired his work for years, and I just had to push through it and say, 'What the hell.' I was very hungry for this role, and I went after it. I definitely have caught the bug because it's another way to express yourself, and I'm an artist."

Fergie's "Nine" will be released worldwide on December 25. In it, she portrays the whore from the leading character Guido Contini from his youth. The movie itself follows the life of Guido as the famous film director reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion and at the same time, balancing the numerous women in his life.
